The Banks of Brahmaputra

The train stopped at platform no.6 and I came to my senses only when I heard the announcement-''Kanti Bhai jahan Bhi hain enquiry counter par pahunche.'' I rose up as I heard the announcement.Who on earth was there at the counter requesting for me? I briskly climbed up the bridge and ran towards platform no.1 where suddenly I was interrupted.A strong looking man(though old)stood before me.He was in loose trousers a typical 'gamcha' wrapped in his hand ( I later came to know that it was the traditional Assamese Gamcha). The man greeted me with smile that showed his rows of red stained teeth. He bent a bit, took out the gamcha in both hands of his and handed it over to me.I moved my lips a bit but the man made me follow him.He took my suitcase in one hand and walked past the enquiry counter through the main gate.An auto was waiting for us outside. The man told the driver to move towatds Pandu. We were sitting in silence. It appeared to me that I should ask him about the whole scenario but I decided to let things go their own way.I had never been to kamrup before but I knew that it has both religious and historical importance. My mother had told me to Bring the 'prasad' of Goddess Kamakhya. So I was eager to see atleast the Hill on which this pious temple stands.
It took us an hour to reach the guest house atop a hill beside brahmputra. One could see the vast reaches of brahmaputra ,flowing by this beautiful town of guwahati. We were now at ease.We took a quick bath and then fell over the bed for a short nap.
